Why is it so HARD to write an author newsletter?

I’m a writer. I write things.

That’s literally all I do all day, and yet, when it comes to writing my author newsletter, I notice I’ve begun to let it slide. My plan was to write every other Wednesday, but I have not.

And this confuses me, as it used to be something I loved writing. Before I started this Substack, I looked forward to writing to my readers and then, it hit me why I might have fallen out with it - I recently split up my email lists.

This Substack is written for you, my lovely writer, all about how to be more visible, get your work out there and me cheering you on.

My author newsletter is aimed at my readers, my ideal reader to be exact, and for some reason, the drive to write it has been lacking.

I could make up excuses, I’ve opened a new copywriting and social media business, I have new clients and page proofs, but yeah, yeah, me of all people knows how important an email list is and why you should keep writing to your people.

So this letter is to us both, me and you, about author newsletter and why they need to be written and how to make them things that you actually are keen to write.

First off, let’s go back to this work book and find out who we’re talking to. I know, we’ve already done this! Let’s do it again, let’s have a refresh, because we need to know that one person that we’re writing to. Because writing a bland letter to ‘everyone’ will connect with no one.

What to write about?

So now we have an idea of who we’re writing to, this next bit actually gets easy.
