I am trying to do as much social content as possible about this fact, and really trying to do a daily TikTok, and as we’re only four days into July, I’m not doing too bad.
Also, I forgot how bloody lovely the booktok community is.
I just posted up a really quick TikTok this morning and already got this message, which has made my day.
Isn’t it lovely when you get a direct result like that?
It’s not a viral TikTok, it’s got less than 500 views, but this lovely person went ahead and made a purchase of it and then commented to let me know she had.
That’s why I love the power of social media.
Where else can you make quick connections like this for free? And that got me thinking to something else I saw on Monday.
I was in Manchester to meet a lovely friend and as we were walking back to the train station, we saw this written on the pavement.
Have you heard of 7SoulsDeep? I hadn’t until I saw this and found them on Instagram. Here’s a brief run-down of what I gathered about them. They’ve been doing this for about two years and are a New York based artist, who leaves poetry on the pavements.
They first appeared in Williamsburg, and then started appearing everywhere, places like London, Berlin and Amsterdam. And now Manchester. If you go to their socials, you’ll see they have a large following with lots of attention. They’re in the press, selling their art, having exhibitions, and you know, enjoying the success.
It reminded me of that bit in the Amelie film, where she take a line from an unpublished authors book and writes it on the wall for him to find.
And it got me thinking about messaging, and how there are so many ways to get people to see your work, online as well as offline. Crucially, the new people. The people who don’t know your books or your writing at all.
It’s not for everyone, but if you have the time and energy here’s some other ways to get real world visibility offline.
